Orugano Bwindi Lodge Location
Orugano Bwindi Lodge is found on the southern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in southwestern Uganda. The lodge sits high on a hill, about 2,161 meters above sea level, with cool fresh air and no mosquitoes. From here, you can see amazing views of the green forest and the Virunga Volcanoes. The lodge is only a short walk from the Nkuringo Sector Park offices, providing a perfect point of entry into one of the most extraordinary landscapes in Africa.
Bwindi is home to more than 500 mountain gorillas – around half the world’s remaining population. As a base from which to set off in search of these magnificent, critically endangered creatures, Orugano Bwindi Lodge is unrivalled. A mist-topped tangle of treetops, strangling roots and coiling ferns, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of the success stories of African conservation.
Once the site of civil unrest, today it is a mysterious wonderland echoing with the call of 20 species of primate, including chimpanzees – and Africa’s largest population of habituated mountain gorillas. Trek through farmland and foliage to spend an intimate hour watching their loving, complex family dramas play out at your feet.
